The New Nations Championship final at Twickenham next year will pit the north and south of World Rugby against each other in a contest to determine which hemisphere dominates the game.

The biennial, 12-team event consists of six rounds of matches across the summer and autumn testing windows before three days of doubleheaders on November 27-29 at Allianz Stadium to pit the nations and champions.

The results of the Finals Weekend will also contribute to a parallel competition to determine which hemisphere will prevail overall.

The Six Nations teams will be the Northern Hemisphere representatives, with South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Argentina, Fiji and Japan opposing them.

Southern Hemisphere teams have won nine of the 10 men’s Rugby World Cup finals, with England’s victory in 2003 marking the north’s only success. However, the world rankings are split evenly – with five teams from each hemisphere in the top ten.

The first round of Nations Championship matches, on Saturday 4 July, includes a host of key fixtures – with South Africa hosting England, France traveling to New Zealand and Australia taking on Ireland.

Fiji is scheduled to play its home matches at neutral venues, given the logistical difficulties of traveling to the Pacific Islands and being able to maximize revenues in larger stadiums elsewhere.

England’s match against Fiji, in the second round of matches, will be played in South Africa, giving Steve Borthwick’s side an extended stay in the country before they travel to face Argentina.
