The new update to Flighty gives you real-time alerts about airport disturbances

As chaos at airports becomes the new norm, popular flight tracking app Flighty has released a new feature called “Airport Intelligence” which provides users with real-time alerts on airport disruptions for reasons across 14,000 airports in the world. The release is timely, given that tensions in the Middle East have caused numerous flight delays, cancellations, and airport closures, while the United States has been facing a shortage of Transportation Security Administration agents, leading to closed security checkpoints and extremely long lines.

The startup is releasing the feature as a web dashboard as well, so all users can track disruptions for free.

The company said it uses the same data that pilots and airlines use to operate this feature. This includes thousands of real-time airport warnings, including meteorological airport reports (METARs), terminal aerodrome forecasts (TAFs), notices to pilots (NOTAMs), and more.

This gives Flighty a picture of airport operations such as ground stops, landing procedures and other safety protocols.

While airport events are described in technical language in the data, Flightly said, it translates these messages into simple language to allow users to understand how their trip could be affected by airport intelligence.

“Airport crashes are becoming increasingly common, and historically, it took a serious pilot, controller or aviation expert to explain why, until now. Airport Intelligence turns raw data into real insights, so you always know what’s happening at your airport,” said Ryan Jones, CEO of Flighty.

The new update also introduces more features such as airport warnings for reasons such as hail, low visibility, de-icing and lightning; predict airport delays using AI-powered summaries to inform users of how different factors will impact their journey; And deep airport statistics, showing the most active airlines, most affected routes, airport rankings, official flight rules, and direct links to airport locations and directions.

The update also includes Favorite Airport Alerts and Airport Dashboards, which displays all arrivals and departures at any airport along with performance trends. Moreover, you can also compare airport visits with friends within the app.

In addition to the intelligence feature, Flightly now includes a TV mode for broadcasters, creatives and newsrooms to show live airport status on screen with an update bar.
