✅ Key idea:

The release of Rob Reiner’s final film, a musical called Spinal Tap at Stonehenge: The Final Finale, has been delayed following the death of the director and his wife, photographer Michelle Singer Reiner.

The film’s US distributors, Bleecker Street, said the expected 2026 release would be delayed until “the best path forward is determined with those close to Rob and his family,” Variety reported.

The film consists of live concert footage featuring Spinal Tap (Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer) performing material near the Old Cenotaph in Wiltshire in the United Kingdom. The location is important to Spinal Tap due to one of the most memorable gags in the original film, when a small replica of the Stonehenge Sarsens is lowered onto the stage due to a mix-up in measurements.

The filmmakers were spotted at Stonehenge in August, and English Heritage confirmed at the time that the site had been leased, but did not reveal further details. A statement issued in October said that Eric Clapton, Shania Twain and Josh Groban were guest musicians at the concert. None of the footage was used in Spinal Tap’s recently released sequel Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, but a cover version was recorded for the film featuring Elton John.

DJs Paul Oakenfold and Carl Cox organized the first officially sanctioned music show at Stonehenge in 2018, while the site was the site of a series of concerts organized by the Free Stonehenge Festival between 1974 and 1984.

Rob and Michelle Singer Rainer were found dead Sunday in their home in Brentwood, Los Angeles. Their son, Nick Rayner, has been charged with their murder.
