The period of perestroika under the last leader of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev, was a surreal time for Uzbek film artist Ismayilova. She revisits that strange historical moment in her film Swan Lake, which recalls how Tchaikovsky’s ballet was shown on television for 24 hours as the Soviet Union collapsed.
