JR Motorsports has announced its bid for the 2026 Daytona 500 through the X brand, but it hasn’t been all smooth sailing behind the scenes. The team accidentally leaked the news through a promotional email sent several hours ago.

JRM’s Justin Allgaier will return to Cup Series competition in the No. 40 Chevrolet, which carries Chris Stapleton’s Traveler Whiskey as the primary sponsorship. As such, the team opened its store with official Traveler Merch merchandise, as demonstrated in an email sent to subscribing fans.

At the time, there was no news about the return of the JR Motorsports Cup, and fans took notice immediately. JRM was quick to control the leak by releasing a promotional video to officially announce the news.

JR Motorsports had a fairly successful showing at the 2025 Daytona 500. Although Allgaier was unable to qualify in the speed field, he made it by competing in the Duel races. The 39-year-old finished in 10th place by the end of the race.

For team owner Dale Earnhardt Jr., the crown jewel event marked the beginning of a new ambition.

“It was really good for me…to come here and experience this to see if this was really the thing that I felt like I wanted. I think that helped me understand that I wanted to be here personally. I feel like this is what I should strive for,” he said (via Forbes).

JR Motorsports finished the 2025 season without a title, despite having three cars in the quarterfinals. Justin Allgaier finished third, while Connor Zelic finished a ten-win season in second place.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. hints at a redemption year for JR Motorsports in 2026

Despite losing the title, Dale Earnhardt Jr. remained optimistic about the 2026 season. In an interview with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Earnhardt vowed to come back strong next year.

“I’m ready to get going next year,” he said. “We’ve got a lot of things that we’re really excited about, just ready to get back on the track and redeem ourselves. You know, any time you don’t get the result you need, you can’t wait to come back and try again. So, I know we’re going to have an offseason of hard work and dedication to try to position ourselves where we get back here and do it next year.”

JR Motorsports’ third championship driver, Carson Kvapil, finished lowest among the final four competitors. Furthermore, Kvapil was unable to secure sufficient sponsorship for 2026, leaving his driving duties split between several JRM cars.

However, he will still run a part-time schedule with the No. 1 Chevrolet that he will share with Conor Zellich. Rodney Childers has been confirmed as the team’s crew chief. Notably, Kvapil entered the sport as champion of the Earnhardt-owned CARS Tour Racing series.
