The Trump administration is taking its social media attacks on Democratic opponents to an unexpected platform, with the White House and several other government agencies joining Plosky on Friday.

In its first post, the new White House account uploaded a highlight reel of Trump shots and memes, along with the message, “What’s up Bluesky? We thought you might have missed some of our greatest hits, so we put this together for you.”

Other government agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Commerce, Department of Transportation, Department of the Interior, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of State, Department of War, and Department of Transportation, appeared to follow the White House by creating new Bluesky accounts, all of which quickly posted messages attacking Democrats over the ongoing government shutdown.

β€œWe hear this is a great place to have open and honest dialogue, so we’re here to talk about how the Democrats’ shutdown is undermining our country on the world stage,” the State Department wrote. (Legal experts have suggested that similar statements from government agencies would likely violate the Hatch Act.)

The messages were generally written in a teasing, trolling tone, suggesting that the administration’s social media teams were anticipating and even hoping for a negative response to a social network widely known as a left-leaning alternative to Elon Musk’s Epstein.

β€œThe reason they haunt this place is because they can’t control the people in it, and it drives them crazy,” wrote Ben Collins, CEO of The Onion.

Meanwhile, several popular Bluesky accounts urged their followers to just “block and move on,” with comedian Paul F. Tompkins declaring that it was “weirdly fun to block the White House.”

Less than 48 hours after joining, White House has already become one of the most banned accounts on Bluesky. According to ClearSky, which tracks ban statistics on Bluesky, about 91,000 accounts have been banned from the White House account, while only 10,000 follow it. The only account that has been banned by more Bluesky users belongs to vice president JD Vance, who joined in June.

While the various new government accounts had not reached these levels by Sunday morning, they represented all of the top five most banned accounts in the past 24 hours. Other right-wing accounts appear to brag about the Trump administration’s follow-up to Bluesky and are widely banned.
