There is a big doubt about Manchester United’s Ella Toon participating in the Women’s League Cup final

Manchester United coach Mark Skinner confirmed that international player Ella Toon is likely to miss the Women’s League Cup final next March due to a thigh injury.

Earlier this month, Skinner gave Toney a timeline of around six weeks to return – at the time there were slim hopes of her returning to the team in time for the final, but that now looks extremely unlikely.

The 26-year-old Toon last played in the 2-1 win over Tottenham in the quarter-finals in December and is yet to feature for United in 2026.

He missed the first-leg win in the Champions League knockout rounds over Atletico Madrid this week and the cup semi-final victory over Arsenal last month.

Asked if there was a doubt about her playing in the final against Chelsea on March 15, Skinner said: “Possibly, yes. Maybe it will come a little early.

“I imagine we are aiming to achieve our goal against Manchester City [on 29 March]. “We hope we can welcome her then.”

United face London City Lionesses in the Women’s Super League on Sunday (12:00 GMT) and will be without several players due to injury.

Winger Fredolina Rulfo, who missed Thursday’s 3-0 win over Atletico Madrid, will hope to return for next week’s second leg at the Leigh Sports Village.

Defender Anna Sandberg went off at halftime on Thursday with a calf injury, which Skinner says United will evaluate over the next few days.

There is still no time frame on the potential return of winger Leah Galton, who has missed this year with a back injury.

United currently occupies second place in the WSL league table, 11 points behind leaders Manchester City, who beat Leicester City 6-0 on Friday evening.
