Cullum accepted VAR’s decision not to award a penalty against Fernandes in Rangers’ 2-2 draw with Dundee United at Tannadice. On that occasion, the ball appeared to hit a defender’s arm as it fell from a United throw-in.
The refereeing chairman said the incident was “not punishable in any way” and also agreed to award Rangers a late penalty, which Nadeem Bajrami converted after a foul by Will Ferry on Max Aarons.
Likewise, Collum upheld the decision not to award a penalty kick against Hearts’ Harry Milne when he blocked Kyril Wilson’s shot on the goal line as Falkirk attacked the hosts. Cullum said it “wasn’t a million percent penalty” because Milne’s arm was stuck to his body.
Celtic defender Liam Scales was awarded a penalty for handball in his side’s 2-1 win over Hibernian, and Collum again agreed, saying: “It’s the right decision.”
Hearts were unsuccessfully awarded a penalty in their 1-1 draw at home to Kilmarnock after Dominic Thompson appeared to head the ball into his hands. Collom again supported his officials’ decision.
Two incidents during Rangers’ 3-0 win at Kilmarnock earned Collum’s approval.
Goalkeeper Jack Butland’s challenge on Kelly’s Bruce Anderson outside the penalty area was not ruled worthy of a red card, and Mohamed Diomandi’s off-ball drag on David Watson on the edge of the penalty area also went unpunished. Cullum believes both incidents were ruled correctly.
