Picking up 12 points is a big deal to make up on aggregate if they are to snatch the trophy away from Glasgow, and Seb Steffen’s late effort for the Warriors at Hampden could prove to be a decisive moment in the tie.
“I’m proud of the players but we have to do more when we have the ball,” Edinburgh coach Sean Everett told BBC Scotland.
“I don’t think it will be very difficult [to motivate the boys]. The players are used to coming back for the second game at home. It’s a very big deficit, when you look at the derby, to make up. That’s why this latest attempt hurt us a little.
“But we will be motivated to get a good win and make sure we compete in the 1872 Cup.”
Over the past two seasons, the Warriors have been in the strange position of lifting the trophy at Murrayfield after losing in the second leg.
The goal now is to secure a win that will allow them to celebrate and close out 2025 in style.
Glasgow defender Rory Darge told BBC Scotland: “It’s massive. It’s 1872, it’s the derby, it’s bragging rights, all that, but first and foremost, it’s the league points.”
“We’ve learned over the last few years that you get to the end of the season and you can look back and see the trophies you didn’t win and you can regret it.
“Every point in the league counts. So it’s very important for us.”
