Thomas Frank buys time as Tottenham beat Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League

It was clear that many fans had turned on Frank during the defeat to the Hammers, with large numbers singing ‘You’re sacked in the morning’ to him.

This feeling remained clear before Tuesday’s match.

“I really think 99% of this stadium is Frank off the field,” said Spurs fan Sarah Sturgeon-Scruggs, who has been attending home games with her father Ronnie since she was nine.

“I enjoy attending matches because of the people we sit with and I spend time with my father, but we feel very little happiness.”

Rooney added: “Barring some sort of miracle in terms of player support, style and results straight away, the fans have abandoned him and I personally feel he should go.”

That win and a much-improved first-half performance was not enough to change their view, as the return to a more conservative and less adventurous display in the second half was cause for frustration.

“The first half was really fun,” Sarah said. “There was a lot of movement, more passing forward and pressing. However, the performance in the second half shows why Frank is not the right person to coach this team. We played with five men in defence, and the game stopped. We sucked the joy out again.

“I’m still out Frank.”

Fellow Tottenham fan Ali Speechley had a similar view before kick-off.

“If we can see signs of what he’s trying to achieve, we might be more patient,” she added.

“It seems like a bunch of players are doing whatever they want.”

Did you change your mind after the match?

“The first half was much better, where was that? But in the second half we died again,” she said. “They either play a good first half or a good second half. I feel like Thomas Frank can’t do both.”

However, some saw enough to believe Frank could build on this.

Alfie said before the match that Tottenham were playing “like a championship team,” but he said afterward: “The first half was great. The second half was not great, but we did not concede goals.”

“But I’m really happy with the result and I think Frank may have a lot more up his sleeve than we think.”
