Tottenham coach Thomas Frank said that Micky van de Ven and Jade Spence had apologized to him after the pair ignored the manager when leaving the field following the defeat to Chelsea.

After Saturday’s 1-0 loss, Frank encouraged his players to take an appreciation walk around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

But as fans booed the players off the pitch, cameras caught Van de Ven and Spence ignoring their manager and heading straight into the tunnel.

“Mickey and Jade came into my office yesterday and said they wanted to apologize for this situation,” Frank said at a press conference on Monday.

“They don’t want it to look bad or any misconception you can get in this beautiful world of media.

“So there was no disrespect towards me or the team at all. They were just disappointed with the performance we had and the booing during the game.”

Van de Ven and Spence’s behavior was criticized by some fans and critics, while others suggested that the incident had been blown out of proportion.

Frank (52 years old) added that he was happy that his players came to him and prevented the problem from escalating.

“If they didn’t come, of course I had to ask them about the situation they are working in. How do they feel, and why are they doing it? Because we all have a perception,” he said.

“Whether it was because their mother wasn’t feeling well or they didn’t like the head coach or they were upset about the performance because of the loss or something else.

“Of course, I’m happy they’re coming because it means they care – I think that’s a very good thing. They care about the team and the club, and in this case, I’m happy about that.”
