Three years, no team has won a Six Nations – how Welsh rugby has changed since 2023

Wales won in Rome when full-back Liam Williams, winger Rio Dyer and number eight Tolupe Faletau crossed for a penalty attempt and an eight-point win from fly-half Owen Williams.

The side included captain and hooker Ken Owens, winger Justin Tipuric and hooker Scott Baldwin, who had retired from professional rugby.

Fullbacks Williams, George North and Rhys Webb are no longer on the Test side with the latter retiring from Test rugby ahead of the 2023 World Cup and subsequently banned from playing for four years due to a doping violation in France.

Nine of Roma’s matchday squad are in the current squad – full-back Lewis Rees-Zammit, winger Josh Adams, centre-half Mason Grady and Joe Hawkins, half-half Thomas Williams, loosehead prop Gareth Thomas, Thomas Francis, locks Dafydd Jenkins and Adam Bird.

Flanker Jack Morgan and number eight Faletau were injured while winger Dier and open side Tommy Revell were overlooked.

Wales legends Alun Wyn Jones and Lee Halfpenny were ruled out of the game three years ago while Dan Biggar missed the game with a back injury.

The 2023 squad had a core of experienced international players while only six of Steve Tandy’s Round 23 match in Dublin had Test half-centuries.
