Tochi Chukwuanyi: Midfielder joins Rangers from Sturm Graz

He was sent off for a late challenge on Celtic captain Callum McGregor, a heart problem that spoiled his move in Serie A and a Europa League victory over Rangers this season – and now Tochi Chukwuane has joined the Ibrox club.

The 22-year-old became Rangers’ first addition in the January transfer window, joining from Sturm Graz for an undisclosed fee on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

He joined Lyngby in 2022, months after La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that his move to Serie A side Hellas Verona had fallen through because a medical examination found a “small heart defect”., external.

He played 58 matches in a two-year period, scoring five goals.

In the summer of 2024, Chukwuanyi moved abroad for the first time, signing a four-year contract with Austrian side Sturm Graz.

His first campaign with Graz was a memorable one as he made 27 appearances and scored three goals in the title-winning side. He also experienced Champions League football for the first time.

This season, he has faced both Rangers and Celtic in the Europa League, helping Graz beat the Ibrox club 2-1 in Austria before being sent off three weeks later for a reckless challenge on Callum McGregor in a 2-1 defeat in Glasgow.
