Argentina coach Felipe Contepome’s accusation that England international Tom Curry is a “bully” is “laughable”, said Alex Sanderson, director of Sale Rugby Club.
Contepomi made the claim after England’s 27-23 win over the Pumas at Allianz Stadium on Sunday, and also accused the striker of cursing and pushing him into the tunnel.
Carey, 27, is available to play for sale in Friday’s match against Exeter in the Prem, with Sanderson saying he was not aware of any disciplinary process that would rule the winger out of the game.
When asked about the incident between Curry and Contepomi, Sanderson initially said: “I wouldn’t give him any airtime at all.”
Sanderson was later asked if he had a reaction to the “bully” accusation and he replied: “Just a laughable reaction”, before adding: “It’s ridiculous in the context of the man he is.”
Earlier this week, Carey was named in the World Rugby XV Dream Team for 2025, and Sanderson confirmed the squad celebrated the milestone with the striker.
“Coming off the back of a career that was compromised by injury and a broken wrist, to reach these heights, you know it’s not easy,” Sanderson said.
“It shows his type of character. He’s a real competitor.”
