Apprentice jockey Tommy Jakes has died at the age of 19, the Injured Jockeys’ Fund and the Professional Jockeys’ Association have announced.
Jacks, who died at home on Thursday, rode 59 winners over the past three years on a flat in Britain.
They include 19 winners in 2025, the latest aboard the George Bogie-trained Fouroneohfever at Catterick on 18 October.
The teenager had ridden in Nottingham on Wednesday and was due to make two trips in Chelmsford on Thursday.
A joint statement from the International Judo Federation and the Association of Professional Journalists said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of licensed apprentice jockey Tommy Jakes, 19, who tragically passed away at his home this morning near Newmarket.
“Tommy was a much-loved son and brother, and a popular member of George Boggi’s racing team. His parents Jeremy and Tony ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult time.”
And in a statement on X., external George Boogie Racing wrote: “We are extremely saddened by the news of the passing of apprentice jockey Tommy Jakes.
“Tommy was an essential and much-loved member of our team. Not only was he an extremely talented young racer with a lot to look forward to, but he was a kind, popular and incredibly hard-working young man.
“We will miss him greatly. Our thoughts are with Tommy’s family, friends and everyone who knew and loved him at this very difficult time.”
