It’s a Tony Scott film, so it comes with its own glossy action thriller, but the screenplay is by Quentin Tarantino. So, in this brutal crime thriller, we get endearing references to martial arts films and Terrence Malick’s Badlands, as well as witty monologues and (unfortunately) a weakness for the N-word. Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette have good chemistry as lovers on the run with a bag of cocaine, while appearances by Gary Oldman, Christopher Walken, Val Kilmer (as the ghost of Elvis) and Dennis Hopper add to the gravitas.
