It doesn’t matter how Well, your favorite streaming service’s algorithm knows you, because in February, even the smartest tech can sometimes be affected by the power of Valentine’s Day. Hence all those romance-filled promos at the top of your screen, from Ryan Murphy’s love story To the ever-ubiquitous Netflix Love is blind.
But love — romantic or otherwise — can be found in the strangest of places, including the radioactive wastelands of post-apocalyptic Los Angeles, Westeros in the rarefied middle of relative peace, or behind the scenes of the latest MCU film.
Whether you’re in the mood to watch a reliable sci-fi gem or a new and informative docuseries from Marty Supreme Directed by Josh Safdie, this February’s streaming lineup offers plenty of options to impress. Here are the 10 shows we’re falling for right now.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy
Picked up from roughly where Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman were Star Trek: Discovery It stopped when it ended in 2024, Starfleet Academy It might be better described as Star Trek For the age of TikTok…or simply the most exciting iteration of the franchise. Set in the 32nd century, the series follows the first group of students to train at the academy in over a century, giving it license to play more like a Hulu-style college series. Tell me lies. Fortunately, Hollywood heavyweights Holly Hunter and Paul Giamatti are there to refocus these wannabe Starfleet officers on boldly going where no one has gone before.
Although franchise enthusiasts may find it a bit light for their tastes, it’s impossible not to appreciate the obvious nostalgia for the iconic series that started it all and Gene Roddenberry’s fierce commitment to diversity, which has unfortunately become an ugly word for the country’s powers – and an aspect of the original show that seems to have gone completely over the head of self-described trekker Stephen Miller.
The miracle man
What do you do if you’re Disney and realize that Marvel movies that regularly crossed the $1 billion mark at the box office while barely raising the Nano Gauntlet are now facing the problem of a seriously diminished return on investment? You make fun of the problem with fun, self-aware comedy that cleverly doesn’t require any real knowledge of the MCU on the part of the audience.
