Top Democrats on Intelligence Committees Question Gabbard’s Presence in Elections Office Raid

Sen. Mark Warner and Rep. Jim Himes, the top Democrats on the committees overseeing national intelligence, are calling on Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard to brief them on why she was present at the FBI search of an election office in Georgia this week that was central to conspiracy theories about President Donald Trump’s loss in the 2020 election.

In a letter, Warner and Himes said it was “deeply concerning” that Gabbard would be involved in local law enforcement actions.

“The intelligence community must focus on external threats, and as you have witnessed firsthand, when these intelligence authorities turn inward, the results can be devastating to Americans’ privacy and civil liberties,” the lawmakers added.

A search for records related to the 2020 election in Fulton County on Wednesday raised concerns that the Trump administration is pursuing the president’s claims that the election was stolen, claims that have been repeatedly refuted by courts and federal officials.
