Rangers have completed the signing of Tor Romenes from Westerlo, but what will the Ibrox club get from the sought-after left-back?

The 22-year-old Belgian arrives on a three-and-a-half-year contract and bolsters Rangers’ options on the left side of defence, with Jayden Meguma the only other natural player in that position.

The Genk academy product attracted interest from Feyenoord in the summer.

“I know Feyenoord tried to sign him in the summer but they ended up going for a different left-back,” Robbie Nelson, former Heart of Middletohyan and Dundee United coach and current SK Lommel assistant coach, told BBC Scotland.

“Feyenoord is historically very good at signings. They tend to attract a lot of top talents from Belgium and bring them to the Eredivisie,” he added.

Romenz is likely to be aware of what to expect at Rangers too, as his current coach, Issam Sharai, was Philippe Clement’s assistant at Ibrox.

“He spoke to him and made him understand the size of the club, the pressure of the club and the expectations,” Nelson said.

“Westerlo is not a huge club, it has a capacity of about 8,000 or 9,000 people, so going from that to Ibrox could be difficult.”

After joining the Genk academy from Westerlo as a youth, Romenz struggled to break into the first team and returned to the Antwerp side in 2023.

He has since scored one goal and contributed nine assists in 79 appearances for the Belgian Pro League side, and has featured nine times for his country at under-21 level.
