“That was fantastic. I think you have to give context to the situation and that’s the beauty of football,” Arteta told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“You go to Wolves and you lose two points with the last kick of the game. Watching it, I don’t understand from my point of view how the hell that happened.

“It feels like the end of the world, but then you have another chance and that’s the beauty of it. On a tough pitch, against our rivals, and seeing how important it is for us in the league and for all our supporters.”

He added: “This is the chapter we wanted to write. We succeeded in that.”

BBC Sport analyst Danny Murphy expects the race between the two to reach the finish line.

He said: “The title race is still very much on for both of them. It’s in their hands, that’s unusual. Usually it’s in the hands of one team and you wait for them to falter.”

“I’ve been in the Arsenal camp a lot with my eyes telling me they are the best team. The recent results have given Manchester City a bit of hope. They have a lot of players in the team who have been there and done that.

“Speaking from my experience, when you get over the line, the next couple of times feel easy. Every time Arsenal get on the pitch, the pressure is on. It’s great for us and I hope it comes to the end. I don’t see any winning all the games between now and the end of the season.”
