✅ Key idea:

After finishing 17th in the Premier League last season, Tottenham began Frank’s tenure with three wins and three clean sheets in four matches.

The Dane has repeatedly said he wants to make Tottenham Hotspur Stadium a “fortress”, but the loss to Chelsea means Tottenham have won just one of five home games under him.

They have not won back-to-back league games since the start of the season with wins over Burnley and Manchester City, and have won just one of their past five matches in all competitions since the October international break.

The poor home form is a continuation of a trend that began under Ange Postecoglou last season – Tottenham have won just three of their last 19 home games in the Premier League (four draws and 12 losses), with no current Premier League club having won fewer home games since 10 November 2024.

In fact, in England’s top four divisions, only Southampton have won fewer home games than Tottenham in this period.

“There will be more questions about Thomas Frank after the game,” former Premier League goalkeeper Rob Green told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“I don’t think he would have learned anything after that because it was a poor performance on the ball. They never gave themselves a chance. They never improved. Not having constant pressure at home is not good enough.”

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp said on Sky Sports that the defeat was “one of the worst performances I’ve seen from Tottenham”.

“It was as easy as could be,” he added. “If this had been a boxing match I would have stopped it. They never put a glove on Chelsea. They made it so easy.”

His sentiments were echoed by fans who made their feelings clear, with fans booing at the final whistle.

Frank said he understood the fans’ frustration but asked for patience as his team continued to improve.

“they [the fans] He said: “They did everything they could to support us in a match in which we did not perform well. Chelsea were better than us that day.”

“There is no doubt, and I keep saying that, we have a new attacking four. We have to build together short changes in games. We will do that. I have no doubt that it will happen.

“I think every team I coached scored a lot of goals. This will happen again in the future here.”

Attacking is not Frank’s only problem – only Wolves (four) have made more errors leading to opposition goals than Tottenham in the Premier League this season, who have made three alongside Manchester United, Nottingham Forest and Fulham.

Tottenham has two chances to make amends at home next week, as it will face Copenhagen in the Champions League and Manchester United in the English Premier League.

After a poor season in the league last season, Frank has certainly made an improvement. But more is needed to improve outcomes and mood in north London.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been in a game where we created so little,” Frank told BBC Sport after his side finished Saturday’s match with an xG rating of 0.05.

“There will always be positives but right now I’m finding it difficult to see them.”
