Transfer deadline day: Who could move on before the Premier League transfer deadline?

With Jean-Philippe Mateta having already told Crystal Palace he wants to leave and the club listening to offers for the French striker, this looks like a move waiting to happen.

The 28-year-old has just 18 months left on his current deal despite signing a contract extension with the Eagles just over 12 months ago.

Italian giants Juventus and English Premier League club Aston Villa are believed to be leading the pursuit of Mateta, who is valued by Palace at around £40m.

Whether it would be wise to agree to the departure of their leading goalscorer this month is another matter entirely.

Palace fans have watched their team pick up just two points in the Premier League since December 7, suffer the biggest shock defeat in FA Cup history, in terms of league positions, and watch captain Mark Guehi complete his move to Manchester City.

Furthermore, manager Oliver Glasner has already announced that he will leave this summer and subsequently launched an attack on the club’s hierarchy.

Palace must have enough points on the board to avoid being dragged into a relegation battle. But if their current form continues for much longer, they could endure a difficult end to the season currently supported by the European Conference League.
