WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump signed a proclamation on New Year’s Eve delaying tariff hikes on upholstered furniture, kitchen cabinets and sinks by a year, citing ongoing trade talks.
The order Trump signed Wednesday maintains a 25% tariff he imposed in September on those goods, but delays for another year a 30% tariff on upholstered furniture and a 50% tariff on kitchen cabinets and dressing tables.
The increases, which were scheduled to take effect on January 1, come as the Republican president has imposed a wide range of taxes on imported goods to address trade imbalances and other issues.

The president said the furniture tariffs are necessary “to support American industry and protect national security.”
The delay is the latest in Trump’s tariff wars since his return to office last year, with the president sometimes announcing tariffs without warning and then abruptly delaying or withdrawing them.
