The Taylor Swift industry is one of the most interesting cultural phenomena of our time. Ahead of rumors of her marriage to Travis Kelce this month, this documentary is a testament to that: an unashamedly antisocial and at times painfully serious deep dive into Swift’s romantic history. From Jonas to Lautner to Styles to Alwyn, there are a few that might inspire Swifties. But it’s great to remember the ways in which it served as a lightning rod; She placed her personal dramas at the center of her music (although you’d be forgiven for thinking she was the first artist ever to do so on the basis of this analysis) and culture as a whole. Documentaries about the paramilitary force shaping America’s border defense strike differently in the age of Trump. But this series tries to keep things non-controversial. This time, the team is forced to detain a comedian after discovering that the medication he purchased in Mexico contains the deadly drug fentanyl. pH

A few days after a public argument with a rival birdwatcher over the area, an excited birder was found dead, apparently strangled by the strap of his binoculars. This is clearly a mystery that Detective Mark Hudson (Luke Roberts) and his flamboyant German Shepherd partner Rex must solve – with the first suspect being the victim’s trembling opponent. It is easy to forget the personal toll that a lifelong struggle took on Nelson Mandela and his family. But the final part of this series finale makes that clear, as he deals with his release but also the role of his wife Winnie and the disintegration of their relationship. A wonderful story, told evocatively. pH

This dark series explores the crimes of serial killers Patrick Kearney, William Bonin and Randy Kraft as a story of gay life in 1960s America. It becomes clear that the only reason killers were able to escape detection for so long was because LGBTQ+ people were isolated from mainstream life. pH
