One minute, you’re complaining to your colleague about a trashy date, the next you’re sifting through frozen fish for illicit drugs. It all happens in a day’s work for DI Ruth Calder (Ashley Jensen) as the tenth series of this popular murder-solving drama begins. Her next case with DI Tosh McIntosh (Alison O’Donnell) is the horrific murder of a retired social worker in a remote village – and they learn that the community is not as cohesive as it seems. Holly Richardson
Penetration
9pm on ITV1
“We have Murdoch on the stand.” Or two of them, to be precise. In the final episode, capo Robert and his son James face off with rather sharp teeth as a result of Leveson’s investigation (and custard pie). But not without a predictable reaction from Nick Davies. As the former Guardian editor told him: “Stand up, put on some steel underwear – and fight.” Ali Catterall
Grand designs
9pm on Channel 4
A tight budget (£175,000) meets a challenging request (converting a 1960s bungalow into a five-bed, two-storey architectural vision) in this unnerving episode of the self-build show. When Kevin Stuart and Rosie from the Wirral visited in 2016, they had complaining neighbors and brick walls. How will they fare after nearly a decade? Ellen E. Jones
BBC New Comedy Awards 2025
9pm, BBC Three
The search for the next great showdown arrives in Newcastle upon Tyne, where host Amy Gledhill introduces five more players vying for a place in the final. Chairwoman of the judging panel Fatiha Al-Ghouri is flanked by Phil Dunning and Dan Tiernan, who won the competition in 2022. Tiernan’s advice for nervous competitors? “Drink through it.” Graeme Virtue
Hunting party
9pm, U&Alibi
More sore-faced but deeply ridiculous drama about detectives tracking down a group of killers who have escaped from a top-secret prison. In this episode, Bex (Melissa Roxburgh) and her team are in Montana searching for a wolf-loving serial killer eager to add to her already impressive body count. JV
Al Ain Investigations: Death in Dubai
11.30pm on BBC Two
In 2022, the so-called #DubaiPortaPotty – a term referring to “money-hungry influencers who willingly defecate for money” – spread online. But the mysterious death of a 23-year-old Ugandan woman in the UAE has raised questions and revealed the dark side of the trend. Human resources

The Fantastic Four: The First Steps (Matt Shakman, 2025), Disney+
The third long-running iteration of the fantastic foursome is the latest attempt to save the Marvel Cinematic Universe from irrelevance — and it may just succeed. So welcome Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn, an unusual family unit in a 1960s alternate Earth with a retro design apparently inspired by the Jetsons. Their opponent is the planet-eating Galactus (Ralph Ineson) who has developed an interest in the unborn child of Reed Richards and Sue Storm. Fun and funny, and bodes well for future efforts. Simon Wardle
Bob Trevino loves it (Tracy Lemon, 2024), 10.50pm, movie 4
Lily Trevino’s (Barbie Ferreira) life story is so sad it makes her therapist cry. She has no friends except for Daphne (Lauren “Lulu” Spencer), who works as her caregiver. Her drug-addicted mother left years ago and she has a very selfish father, Bob (Stuart French). Then she meets another Bob Trevino (John Leguizamo) online and an unexpected friendship blossoms. A sweet and poignant comedy-drama from Tracy Lemon about the value of simple human connection. Southwest
