Josh Finnan is one of the best new talents, with hit shows like Say Nothing and The Responder. He takes the lead role in this fascinating new drama as Dan, a philosopher who for the first time teaches the men in prison. But this brings up Dan’s past traumas, specifically his unresolved business with his violent father. Based on Andy West’s memoir and written by Dennis Kelly (Pulling, Together), the interactions in the lessons alone are quite fascinating. Holly Richardson

Given the success of the celebrity release, it’s easy to forget that it’s been a full year since the last record was released. From obvious classics (Kylie & Jason, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton) to duets that seemed ridiculous until they happened (Eminem and Dido, anyone?), this archival dive charts another route through the BBC’s vast music collection. Bowie: The Final Act

It’s been a decade since we woke up to face a world without David Bowie. From there, things really went downhill. This incredibly poignant film traces those mixed years (Tin Machine, Glastonbury) before the flame was suddenly rekindled with The Next Day and that strategic, brilliant and public farewell and requiem, his final album Blackstar.
