A lyrical tale of self-sacrifice from Belarus, this film tells the story of welder Katya who is determined to care for her half-sister Tanya in the wake of the couple’s traumatic childhood. As life conspires against Katya, it’s almost impossible not to be affected, but director Anastasia Miroshnichenko never portrays this heroic woman as a victim. Phil Harrison
