Best friends…Molly Gordon and Ben Platt are at theater camp. Photo: Al-Kashaf Pictures/AP

A mockumentary that manages to avoid making fun of most of its subjects, this beautiful film by Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman follows a season at a risky but much-loved youth performing arts summer school. With the director suffering a stroke, her son, “commercial vlogger” Troy (Jimmy Tatro), takes over, much to the surprise of the children and staff, including teachers and their friends Rebecca Diane (Gordon) and Amos (Ben Platt). A love letter to institutions like these that provide refuge for outcasts and nonconformists, young and old. Simon Wardle
