Navigating the Shipping Forecast with Pastor Richard Coles
7pm on Channel 4
It’s a nice concept for a series, albeit somewhat Partridge-adjacent. Coles enjoys the magic of taking this cruise on his travels around the beautiful, weather-beaten northern regions of the UK. He’s in the Faroe Islands: fishing, visiting a foodie hotspot, meeting a band. pH
Gladiators
8pm, BBC One
It’s the final round of prelims, as contestants battle it out to reach the quarterfinals of TV’s sweatiest game show. Apollo returns to the Duel stage as part of the five events the contestants have to overcome, so expect a fair number of bruised and battered participants. Alexey Duggins
The Great Icelandic Swim with Ross Edgley
8pm on Channel 4
The marathon robot continues his sea swimming journey in northern Iceland, and things get very bleak: Arctic storms create huge waves and sea salt wounds put him at risk of cellulitis. Fantastic, best appreciated by a very comfortable sofa. Phil Harrison
The Roman Empire by Train with Alice Roberts
9pm on Channel 4
You’ve heard of Pompeii, but Herculaneum, located seven miles south of Naples, was also buried by a volcanic eruption. Here Alice continues her adventure, searching for the scrolls in the city’s hand-dug tunnels. Then we move to the city of Capua, where there was a sect that worshiped the god Mithras, who slaughtered the bull. Ellen E. Jones

Predator: Badlands is now available on Disney+
Director Dan Trachtenberg continues to revive the ’80s sci-fi monster franchise with a film starring Elle Fanning. Although the series began eight films ago, with Arnold Schwarzenegger running around the rainforest, Badlands is the first Predator film to feature an actual Predator (Demetrius Schuster-Kulamatangi) as the hero. He has traveled to a distant planet to prove his mettle, by confronting the Calisk, the only creature in the universe that the Predators fear. But he won’t survive without his robot guide, Thea (Fanning). Ellen E. Jones
Flirting on the Stone, 3 p.m., Movie 4
Screenwriter Diane Thomas was working as a cocktail waitress in Malibu when she wrote this surprise box-office hit, a jungle jaunt filled with everything: man-eating alligators, lost treasure, and Danny DeVito in a Panama hat. Kathleen Turner stars as Joan Wilder, a lonely Manhattan romance novelist who travels to Colombia to rescue her kidnapped sister, falls in love with an exotic bird smuggler named Jack T. Colton (Michael Douglas), survives several mudslides, dances a flirtatious fandango, and has the adventure of a lifetime. Eig
A Taste of Things, 9:35pm, BBC4
Skip the Valentine’s Day restaurant reservation and treat your sweetheart to this cinematic feast instead. French-Vietnamese director Tran Anh Hung (The Scent of Green Papaya) won the Best Director award at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival for this study of the slow-simmering love affair between gourmand Frenchman Dodin (Benoit Magimel) and his cook Eugenie (Juliette Binoche). They spend their days at Duden’s country estate, dreaming up new dishes to impress his coterie of dining companions, who meet regularly to admire Eugenie’s artistry as well as her beauty. Hong’s slow camera savors every delicious morsel, but unfortunately, even a nine-course meal can’t last forever. Eig
bone lake, 9.30pm, premiere at Sky Cinema
Diego (Marco Pigosi) and Sage (Florence Pugh lookalike, Maddie Hasson) arrive at their large lakeside vacation rental, only to discover that it has been double-booked by Will (Alex Rowe) and Sin (Andra Nishita). After a brief and awkward interaction, the couple agree that a) the double meaning of the resort’s name is funny, and b) they can partake amicably for the duration of their stay. But this is a fast-paced action thriller from horror director Mercedes Bryce Morgan, so it won’t stay friendly for long. Eig
Alfie, 12.55am, Sky Cinema Greats
The existential ennui of a serial seducer is explored in this swinging ’60s classic. Michael Caine plays the titular magician, who takes women into his bed — and takes us into his confidence — with regular conversations that break the fourth wall. Alfie is “living a sweet little life” until the consequences of his actions catch up with him. At this point, the raunchy sex comedy develops a social realist conscience, through the song Cilla Black. Eig
