Lola Petticrew played Dolours Price in last year’s Say Nothing, and here she is in another brilliant drama about the Troubles. Based on Louise Kennedy’s hit novel, the film is a story about the forbidden relationship between two opposite lovers – or rather, a Catholic and a Protestant in 1970s Northern Ireland. Cushella (Petticrew) is a Catholic teacher who also pulls pints at her family’s bar, where she meets Michael (Tom Cullen), the “posh-brood” older lawyer. Cushella can see how serious this is, but Michael’s influence on her is too strong. Their performances crack (as does Gillian Anderson as Cushella’s alcoholic but sharp mother, Gina). But this secret relationship definitely couldn’t end well… Holly Richardson

War Paint: Women at War, 9pm, Sky Arts
“What do women see that men don’t?” This is the question that drives Margie Kinmont’s illuminating history of women artists and how they responded to war. The time ranges from World War II painters such as Laura Knight to the likes of Fiona Banner and Rachel Whiteread in the present. Geographically, from Iran to Sudan to Ukraine. We see skilled artists using a range of techniques to expose under-covered, female-centered aspects of conflict, highlighting many overlooked talents that deserve a more prominent place in the cultural conversation.
