Tyrone SFC final: Loughmacrory makes history with its first title

Trellick were aiming to win the title for the second time in three years, so it was no surprise that he settled quicker with three early goals through Charlie Donnelly, Lee Brennan and Simon Garrity.

Once Loughmacrory’s nerves settled, they grew into the contest and dominated Trillick’s kick, scoring six unanswered goals.

Ruairi McCullagh got to the ball before rolling over twice from McElholm, another from Cathaoir Gallagher and a stunning two-point score from the left boot of Cathal Donaghy.

Despite Lough’s dominance, Trillick responded with a fortuitous strike of his own as Lee Brennan’s shot fell short but was saved by Oisin O’Kane and Daly could not believe his luck when he scored into the empty net.

McCullagh and Brennan (Trellick’s first score in 13 minutes) traded scores before McElholm’s inspired pointer gave the underdogs a 0-12 to 1-6 lead at the break.

Cathal Donaghy continued to dominate the middle third and started the second half with two quick points.

Trellick hit back with a quick restart, with Matty Donnelly feeding Daly to slot home his second.

Donaghy and Donnelly exchanged efforts before substitute Richie Donnelly put one between the two sides with five to play.

With a grandstand finish in Omagh assured, Loughmacrory were penalized for failing to keep three men in their attack, with Brennan opting to shoot from 20 meters to level the sides for the first time since the 28th minute.

The fourth official’s board showed three minutes of extra time, but it was the men in black and amber who had possession, with Gareth Donaghy volleying the ball over the bar to put his club ahead.

Loughmacrory would hold the ball for two and a half minutes after taking the lead, but lost possession momentarily before winning it back in the middle of the pitch as time ran out.

Referee Mark Loughran’s whistle was met with a mixture of pandemonium and raw emotion, as Lomacrory were crowned Kings of Tyrone for the first time in their history.
