Nathaniel Wood says he has returned the money the UFC charged his opponent Jose Delgado for missing weight ahead of their fight in Abu Dhabi last month.

American Delgado was fined 20 percent of his fight purse for weighing one pound over the featherweight limit of 146 pounds (10 6 lbs).

Weight loss fines usually go to the wrongdoer’s opponent, but Wood says he returned the money to Delgado — a gesture uncommon in the UFC.

Londoner Wood won the bout via unanimous decision – a result that divided opinion among fans and critics – but says he rewarded Delgado because his performance was worth it.

“To the people who are messaging me saying I stole him, man, I gave him his weight and returned his wallet,” Wood said on Instagram., external

“Personally, I was a little [annoyed]I lost weight. He shouldn’t be fighting at that weight. To me, the guy is too big to be 145 pounds, that’s why he lost weight.

“But it was only one pound, and the kid obviously doesn’t have as much money as I do. He came and put up a tough fight. So to me, he gets his money’s worth.”
