UFC: Briton Lonier Kavanagh steps in to face Brandon Moreno at UFC Mexico

British player Lonier Kavanagh intervened less than a month after he was scheduled to face Brandon Moreno in Mexico on February 28.

Earlier this week, Aso Alambayev withdrew from his flyweight contest with Moreno due to injury.

Kavanagh, 26, is booked to fight at UFC London on March 20 and will now face his toughest test yet against the former flyweight champion.

The Mexican coach will have the weight of frenetic fan support at home, but he stands at a crossroads in his career after three defeats in his past five matches.

Tatsuro stopped 32-year-old Taira Moreno in his last bout in December, but remains in fourth place in the division.

Kavanagh, ranked 15th, can significantly strengthen his position if he achieves an away win.

The Londoner suffered the first defeat in his mixed martial arts career in his last match in August, where he lost by knockout to Charles Johnson.

Even though Kavanagh is now off the UFC London card, there will still be plenty of British fighters in the fight.

Featherweight Leron Murphy headlines against Movsar Ivlov, while Nathaniel Wood, Luke Riley, Michael “Venom” Page, Christian Leroy Duncan and more are scheduled to appear.
