US invades Venezuela: ‘My relatives have suffered in ways I would not wish on anyone’

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Juliana Pena has thrown her support behind the latest US invasion of Venezuela.

Pena, who is of Venezuelan and Mexican descent, posted a lengthy message on Instagram supporting US President Donald Trump’s arrest of Nicolas Maduro.

Pena published the letter in English and Spanish and explained her reasons for supporting this measure by the United States.

The “Venezuelan Vixen” touched on her heritage and how her fighting name came about in mixed martial arts (MMA). She also talked about how beautiful the country is:

“When I was a child, my parents took us to Venezuela. It was beautiful. I loved learning about the history, culture and everything that makes the country so special. There was a time when Venezuela was one of the richest and most promising countries in the world.”

Pena then explained the atrocities allegedly committed by Maduro and how dangerous the situation was for her family and other relatives in the South American country:

“But over the past 15 years, everything has changed. What was once thriving has fallen into disarray under the dictatorship of Nicolas Maduro. Visiting has become dangerous, and our family has been warned not to return. My relatives have suffered in ways I would not wish on anyone — real hardship, fear, and loss.”

The former champion hoped the country would be liberated and wanted a better future as well.

Pena won the bantamweight title the first time after an upset win over the legendary Amanda Nunes at UFC 269. She lost the gold in a rematch at UFC 277 before defeating Raquel Pennington at UFC 307 to become a two-time champion.

In her last fight, Pena lost the title to Kayla Harrison at UFC 316.

Why did the United States invade Venezuela?

Donald Trump has blamed Nicolas Maduro for the arrival of thousands of Venezuelan migrants into the country. The US administration also accused the South American country of working with drug traffickers and waging a “non-international armed” war in the United States.

There has been a gradual escalation of pressure on Maduro during Trump’s second term in office. The United States also doubled its reward for anyone providing any information about Maduro. The South American country was subjected to several strikes and covert operations before the actual invasion, which took place on January 3.

Recent videos and photos have emerged of Maduro and his wife being handcuffed and brought into the United States, where they will face numerous gun and drug smuggling charges.

For his part, Maduro denied all these allegations and responded to Trump by saying that he was impeached so that the United States could access its vast oil reserves.
