📌 **What You’ll Learn**:

When evaluating a DOGSO, referees are asked to imagine the scenario without the defender at the foul point.

The ball was in front of Thiago, there was no other defender close to him and the play was a few yards outside the area.

Surely Thiago would have collected the ball, run forward a few yards and slotted the ball home.

Romero coming off the ball may have given the VAR some doubt that Thiago would take control. It gave the perception that play was not going to continue forward.

However, this happened after the foul and the ball only stopped because Romero fell on it. A DOGSO red card seems to be the most logical outcome.

While the ball touched Romero’s arm, it was accidental and not considered a handball.

It would have been Romero’s third red card in less than a month.

Andrews was upset that Romero was not sent off when the two teams met on December 6. Once again the Argentine defender challenged Thiago.

It was a scissor-style treatment and Andrews felt it was “too easy” for the officials.

The Premier League’s Major Match Incidents Committee voted 3-2 that Romero should have been sent off by referee Rob Jones. But the result of the vote was 4-1, and the video assistant referee, Tim Wood, was right not to intervene and drop the red card.

Romero was sent off for two yellow cards against Liverpool on 20 December.
