Venus Williams received a wildcard to the Auckland Classic in January.

The 45-year-old, who has won seven Grand Slam titles, returned to action in July after a 16-month absence from competition.

She defeated fellow American Peyton Stearns, then ranked 35 in the world, in her return at the Washington Open to become the second highest-ranking woman to win a singles match at WTA Tour level.

A month later, she earned a wildcard into the main draw of the US Open and impressed with her three-set loss to 11th seed Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic in the first round.

“Venus has had a profound impact on the development of women’s tennis and inspired the next generation with her unwavering passion for the sport,” Auckland Classic tournament director Nicholas Lambrin said.

“All sports fans should take advantage of this opportunity to watch one of the all-time greats of sports.”

Williams is scheduled to participate in the Auckland Classic, a tournament she won in 2015, for the first time since 2023.

It will be held from January 5 to 11, and precedes the Australian Open, the first major tournament in 2026, which is scheduled to start on January 18.
