In a break from tradition, President Donald Trump decorated the White House walkway with bronze plaques of each US president. In a more severe break with tradition, the panels are written in a style that echoes Trump’s Social Truth posts, with misleading or false descriptions of recent Democratic presidents.
Former President Joe Biden, whom Trump calls “Sleepy Joe,” is represented not by a portrait but by an image of an automatic pen, the use of which Trump falsely said would invalidate Biden’s pardon.

Biden’s plaque says he took office “as a result of the most corrupt election ever in the United States.” This is not true. Trump and his allies filed dozens of lawsuits to challenge the results of the 2020 elections. They lost by more than 60. A group of Republicans, including former federal judges, examined Trump’s statements about fraud and miscalculation and found that they did not present evidence that would invalidate the election results.
The plaque also says Biden oversaw “the highest rate of inflation ever recorded.” While inflation has been the highest in four decades under Biden, its all-time high occurred in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Former President Barack Obama’s panel describes him as “one of the most divisive political figures in American history,” though his retroactive approval rating in 2025 is the highest of any of the past five presidents, at 59%, according to Gallup. The percentage of positive votes for Trump in the same poll was 48%.
Obama’s panel said the Affordable Care Act — which made it easier to get health insurance when employers didn’t offer it — was “largely ineffective.” The percentage of uninsured Americans fell from 14.8% in 2012, before the law was fully implemented, to 8.6% in 2016, Obama’s final year in office.
Obama’s plaque says he “spied on Donald J. Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign,” but multiple independent investigations, including bipartisan Senate reports, have found no political influence on the FBI’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.
