✅ **What You’ll Learn**:
Is your phone or home internet not working? You’re not alone: Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Mint Mobile, and other networks are experiencing outages across the United States.
Many Verizon customers are having issues connecting to the company’s cellular network, with some phones showing an ‘SOS’ message in the status bar—meaning only satellite connectivity is available. There are outage reports on Reddit from Texas, New York, Louisiana, Florida, Colorado, and other states. The website Downdetector has received many more reports, with most of them coming from Oregon, New York, Illinois, Atlanta, Texas, and Arizona.
Verizon’s fiber optic internet service, Verizon Fios, is currently offline for many customers as well. Downdetector has received reports in Georgia, Virginia, New Jersey, and New York.
AT&T, T-Mobile, and UScellular customers are also reporting service disruptions. That could indicate some shared infrastructure used across the major carriers has failed, like critical fiber lines or DNS servers. T-Mobile completed its acquisition of UScellular last year, and the company is currently merging the two networks, so it’s not surprising that a T-Mobile outage would affect UScellular customers as well.
T-Mobile’s Satellite Phone Service Now Works With More Apps
Satellite-connected smartphones are still in their infancy, but that isn’t stopping T-Mobile from developing new features and capabilities. If you’ve tried T-Mobile’s satellite service but wish it worked with more apps, we have good news. Those going off-grid can now use T-Satellite to access data on several essential apps.
Smaller mobile networks that rely on T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon also seem to be affected to varying extents. Cricket Wireless, which is owned by AT&T and uses the AT&T network, has some reported outages on Downdetector. My personal phone on Cricket in central North Carolina is still working, though. Mint Mobile uses T-Mobile’s network, and there’s a spike of reports there as well.
It’s not clear yet what is causing the disruption. T-Mobile’s support article for network disruptions doesn’t have any current information, and Verizon’s ‘Check network status’ page is showing an error after selecting any address.
Verizon said in a post on Twitter/X, “We are aware of an issue impacting wireless voice and data services for some customers. Our engineers are engaged and are working to identify and solve the issue quickly. We understand how important reliable connectivity is and apologize for the inconvenience.”
