💡 **What You’ll Learn**:

Donald Trump responded to Robert De Niro’s recent podcast appearance, in which he called the president an “idiot.”

Speaking on Monday’s episode of “Best People with Nicolle Wallace,” De Niro, who has long criticized Trump’s politics, ethics and competence, said: “He’s an idiot. We’ve got to get rid of him. He’s going to destroy the country.”

He added: “I don’t want everyone walking around with their flags, American flags, as if they are the only ones. We are Americans too.”

The actor then made headlines at “State of the Swamp,” an event in Washington aimed at responding to Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday. In his emotional speech, De Niro described the president as a “loser, bumbling, and desperate” and said he felt “betrayed by my country.”

In his lengthy write-up on Truth Social on Wednesday, the president first suggested deporting Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, who left the Capitol early Tuesday after shouting at him during his speech.

Trump called them “low IQ” and claimed they “screamed uncontrollably last night at the very elegant State of the Union address, such an important and beautiful event.” “They had the swollen, red eyes of mad, insane, mentally deranged and sick people who, frankly, looked like they should be institutionalized.”

He added: “They should actually get on a boat with Trump’s deranged Robert De Niro, who is another sick, demented person who, I think, has a very low IQ, and has absolutely no idea what he is doing or saying – some of which is very criminal!”

Trump continued: “When I watched him break down in tears last night, like any child would, I realized that he was probably sicker than crazy Rosie O’Donnell, who is now in Ireland trying to figure out how to get back to the beautiful United States.”

“Trump Derangement Syndrome” is a phrase the president has often used to describe his political opponents. His suggestion that this was the cause of the death of the late Rob Reiner and his wife Michelle caused major backlash.

Shortly before Trump was up for re-election in 2024, De Niro told HBO Max’s Chris Wallace that he felt Trump and his allies were “not real Republicans” and called him “an idiot and a fool… and a clown.”

Although she’s not a particular fan of Kamala Harris, De Niro said she’s “at least… sensitive to the state of the country and the people.”

“You will make mistakes,” he continued. “Of course, everyone does it, but we need someone with the right intentions. This guy doesn’t have the right intentions, and everyone knows it. It’s crazy. Period.”

Earlier that year, the National Association of Broadcasters canceled a leadership award it was scheduled to present to De Niro after the actor spoke out against Trump outside the latter’s criminal trial in New York.
