Former British Olympic track and field coach Jose Vicente Leyva Modal has been charged with child sex offences, the Public Prosecution Service announced.
Leva Modal, 65, the husband of former Olympic middle-distance runner Diane Modal, will appear in court on Tuesday to face 19 separate charges including sexual assault of a child, rape and controlling and coercive behaviour.
The Public Prosecution said that all charges related to the same woman between 2012 and 2024.
This follows an investigation by Greater Manchester Police into Norwegian national Leva Modal, also known as Vicente Modal.
James Bolton Smith, Deputy Crown Prosecutor, said: “The Crown Prosecution Service has decided to prosecute Vicente Leyva Modal for a number of serious sexual offences, including offenses relating to the sexual assault of children.”
“Our prosecutors have worked to demonstrate that there is sufficient evidence to take the case to court and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings.
“We have worked closely with Greater Manchester Police as they carry out their investigations.”
Leyva-Modal will appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
