Victor Geukeris: Has the Arsenal striker finally found form?

Gyokeris was signed for his ability to find the back of the net but was also brought in to create space for the strikers behind him.

This thinking has proven to be correct, despite the personal difficulties he faces on the field.

Arsenal have a better winning percentage (84%) and concede fewer goals when starting.

The stats show that Arsenal score more goals without starter Gjukeres, but concede more goals without him too, highlighting their work rate and desire to help the team.

“I like his personality,” Arteta said when asked about Gyokeris’ mental strength and resilience after the win over Sunderland.

“The way he approaches every day, the fact that he is so focused on the present, what he needs to do, and has a real will to help the team in whatever role he has.

“When you wear this shirt, it comes with a lot of responsibility and high expectations. You have to live with that. In your journey here, you will have moments where things are going really well and others where it will be difficult.”

Scrutiny on Gyokeris was high from the moment he signed, with the club desperate to win the title after numerous near misses.

Added to this is his record of goals and the fact that he has the number 14, which was made famous by Arsenal’s all-time top scorer Thierry Henry.

“With Victor, when you look at him, it’s very difficult to understand his feelings because he looks directly at you and you don’t really know him,” Arteta said.

“But it doesn’t seem to be affected much by real highs or lows.

“And that’s what we need: stability. He’s very demanding of himself. He’s constantly trying to improve, and that’s a really good thing.”

It may have been difficult for Gyokeris at times, but there are plenty of games left with some potential highlight moments for Arsenal.

Now that the striker has found the back of the net, he’s putting himself in a position to be a big part of that.
