📌 **What You’ll Learn**:
There is a light at Beckham’s end hebdomadis horbilisVictoria Beckham has the best-selling UK single of the week with Not Such an Innocent Girl, originally released in 2001.
Following her eldest son Brooklyn’s shocking revelations about a falling out with his parents, including his shocking account of his mother dancing “on him” at his wedding to Nicola Peltz in 2022, fans who took the side of mom and dad Beckham in this year’s celebrity gossip showed their support by purchasing MP3s of Beckham’s debut single. (Her first non-Spice Girls effort, 2000’s Out of Your Mind, was a collaboration with Dane Bowers of another level.)
The song ranked at number one on two marginal charts, the Official Single Sales chart and the Official Downloads chart, but did not reach the Top 100, which combines streams and sales to determine chart positions.
At No. 100 on this chart is Miles Smith with 5,258 combined units for his 2024 single Stargazing; The Official Charts Company did not provide exact numbers for Beckham’s song, although it said the song’s sales and streams were up 19,615% since last week.
The sales and downloads charts actually gave Beckham her first chart-topper since the Spice Girls’ Holler/Let Love Lead the Way in 2000. The five-piece has had nine number-one singles in the UK, the most of any girl group, but Beckham has never achieved a number-one spot as a solo artist: Out of Your Mind beat out Spiller and Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love).
“Not such an Innocent Girl” was promoted as part of a chart battle with Kylie Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Out of My Head,” both of which were released, somewhat surprisingly, just a week after 9/11. Beckham lost very handsomely. Minogue’s song reached number one and became a hit with first-week sales of 306,000 copies, and Beckham’s effort fell to number six by just over a tenth of that number, with sales of 35,000 copies.
Even Beckham seemed like he wanted to forget the whole thing quickly, and therefore may not welcome this return. Her self-titled debut album flopped, spending only four weeks on the chart. They are the only Spice Girl group to have released just one solo album, having left music behind to pursue fashion.
However, Beckham’s two solo albums never saw the light of day. One recorded around 2002 was leaked in 2006, and fans know it as “Open Your Eyes”. In 2003, she recorded a hip-hop album with American producer Damon Dash called Come Together. Despite featuring a collaboration with Ol’ Dirty Bastard, it was cancelled, perhaps wisely. It was leaked in 2016 after a demo CD was sold on eBay.
Despite social media users calling for the tape to be “released”, the same fate has yet to befall leaked footage of Beckham allegedly dancing “inappropriately” for her eldest son at his wedding, prompting the young couple to renew their vows a year later in order to “create new memories”.
“First impressions can be wrong / So let me explain what’s going on,” Beckham sang 25 years ago — but until now, neither she nor her husband, David, have sought to clarify the claims.
