The two teams will play about 850 miles apart, although they have spent the build-up to their matches in the same surroundings.

The football and rugby union teams train at the Valley Resort in Hinsol, about a 20-minute drive from Cardiff city centre.

Naturally, there is regular cross-over at the training site when both teams are in the luxurious facilities at the same time.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, rugby captain and hooker Dewi Lake wished the football team good luck in their competition in Liechtenstein.

Cardiff’s Alex Mann spoke of his close relationship with Cardiff City winger Isaac Davies and his pride at seeing his childhood friend get another big call-up from Craig Bellamy.

“He’s been one of my best friends since I was little, so we grew up in school together,” Mann said of Davis.

“It gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. We would always go ahead and say to each other in class that we wanted to play for Wales, with him in football and me in rugby.

He added: “For him, he was called up on Sunday. He came to watch the match as well. It is a great honor for him. He got an opportunity.”

“From being in Aberdare thinking this is our dream, it is very surreal to be given the opportunity at the same time.

“I’m really proud of him to be honest. We’re similar people. We’ll keep our heads down and keep working hard and hopefully we get opportunities.”
