Wales have brought forward their squad announcement to Wednesday and Wainwright will be available alongside fellow back row striker Alex Mann, who was knocked off in the closing stages last weekend and then passed a head injury assessment.

The game will stretch Wales deep, but attack coach Matt Sherratt is relishing the opportunity to take on the Springboks.

“It is an opportunity to play against the world champions in our stadium,” Sherratt said.

“It’s an opportunity for a group of players to show themselves to the best. Only good can come from that and we don’t want to go into it with a victim mentality because you can fail.”

“We have to focus on ourselves as a new group, look at areas where we need to improve, and if we see some signs of that, it will be a worthwhile game.

“We urgently need to perform well on the field and support the players we have available.”

Wales will have to change, but Sherratt insists giving chances to all members of their squad is not part of the selection process.

He added: “We have to choose the best team available to us to perform well for the country.”

“If the player is in the camp, he is not guaranteed to participate in the matches. I do not think this is healthy.

“The cap should be something you work hard for and strive for, the pinnacle of your career, it’s not something that should be handed out just because you’re in camp. Players deserve to be in camp, but then they have to earn it.”
