President Donald Trump allowed the First Lady to light the National Christmas Tree at a ceremony in the nation’s capital on Thursday evening.

“The First Lady will do the honors,” Trump said.
He counted down from five to zero, and Melania Trump stepped forward and pressed a button that made the tree behind her sparkle with golden lights.

“It’s beautiful,” Trump said.
In brief remarks, he touched on the peace agreement signed earlier Thursday between Rwanda and Congo, made false claims about “rigging” the 2020 elections, and said he was glad his terms were not consecutive because he will be in office when the World Cup and Summer Olympics are held in the United States next year.
Trump also thanked those who serve those in need as well as police and other law enforcement officers, first responders, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and Border Patrol agents.
The president also spoke about the two National Guard members who were shot and killed near the White House the day before Thanksgiving.
