US President Donald Trump will host 2025 MLS Cup champion Inter Miami, including Argentine soccer player Lionel Messi, at the White House on Thursday.

In October, Messi agreed a new contract with Inter Miami, a deal that took several months to complete and ensured that the sport’s biggest icon would be with the MLS club for its planned move to a new stadium this year.

Inter Miami said it is a three-year deal until 2028. His decision to stay in Miami is a big deal for both the club and MLS.

Messi was the league’s best player in 2024 and 2025, making him only the second two-time winner in the league’s history and the first to win it in consecutive years. Brickey won the Most Valuable Player award in 1997 and 2003.

Messi is 38 years old, making this contract likely his last as a professional player. He has spent more than half his life playing at professional level, making his debut for Barcelona as a 17-year-old in 2004.

It is not clear how long Messi, an eight-time Ballon d’Or winner and generally considered the sport’s biggest star, plans to continue playing. He led Argentina to the World Cup title in 2022; His country aims to defend this cup when the tournament is held in June and July in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
