“I can’t believe people still don’t respect you and try to lie about January 6th. I will do everything I can to stop the lies about our brave officers like you who protected us during the attack.”

House Democrats called on the former special committee that investigated the attack to hear from witnesses and lawmakers about their experiences since that day and the continuing threats to the election.

The January 6 Commission spent 18 months investigating the attack, President Donald Trump’s role in the events and his attempts to overturn the 2020 election.

Members interviewed more than 1,000 witnesses, some in live public hearings. The committee voted to refer Trump to the Department of Justice for trial on four federal charges, including aiding in rebellion and conspiracy to defraud the United States, marking the first time that Congress has referred a former president on criminal charges. The committee was dissolved in 2023.

Since Trump began his second term, he has pardoned or commuted the sentences of more than 1,500 defendants in connection with the attack.
