✅ **What You’ll Learn**:

President Donald Trump’s nominee for Surgeon General, Dr. Casey Means, faced questions Wednesday about the president’s recent executive order encouraging more domestic production of glyphosate, an ingredient in the weedkiller, and how that might conflict with her own beliefs about the potential effects of the chemical.

During her confirmation hearing, Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., Minn., asked the author and health influencer about her past comments that glyphosate causes cancer and whether she believes Trump’s order is harmful to families’ health. Means is a supporter of the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement, which largely opposes pesticides in food production, as well as an ally of Health Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr.

“We as a country must move away from the use of toxic inputs in our food supply, and we must study these chemicals further to understand their effects,” Means said. “I am deeply concerned about the health effects of these chemicals.”

“I understand that, Doc,” Markey said. “I’m just trying to help you agree with yourself. You’ve already said that in the past, but Trump is contradicting you.”

The EPA says there is “no evidence that glyphosate causes cancer in humans.”

Means later said that the MAHA strategy “will make sure that American consumers are protected, and that we enter an era in which we will prioritize helping farmers transition to more sustainable agricultural practices. I think those are all good things. I think they are very important, both for our planet and for our health, and I will be an advocate for that cause.”

“MAHA is not happy with Trump’s executive order,” Markey said. “This is reality.”
