✅ Here’s what you’ll learn:
President Donald Trump heads to Miami on the anniversary of his re-election to a second term to speak to a forum of global business leaders and athletes about what he sees as his economic accomplishments. His speech comes after Democrats won resoundingly in multiple states on Tuesday, with exit polls showing that economic concerns were on voters’ minds.
Trump is scheduled to speak at 1 p.m. ET. Watch in the player above.
Trump told GOP senators at a breakfast meeting before leaving the White House that the 36-day government shutdown, now the longest on record, was a “huge negative” for the GOP in the election, and he called on the senators to end it by ending the filibuster, the 60-vote threshold in the Senate that requires bipartisan negotiations on most legislation. “This is not happening,” one prominent Republican senator said after breakfast.
As the shutdown disrupted the lives of millions of Americans through federal program cuts, flight delays, and denial of pay to federal employees across the country, Democrats called on Trump to meet with them. Trump says they have to reopen the government first. Meanwhile, the US Supreme Court is hearing arguments on Trump’s sweeping tariff policies that have been at the heart of his economic and foreign agendas.
