Watch: Trump claims that the United States and Iran are holding talks, and Iran wants to “reach an agreement”

US President Donald Trump said that the United States is in talks with a “respected” Iranian leader.

Trump told reporters on Monday that his special Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, held talks through Sunday evening.

He added that the talks will continue today.

Trump did not mention the name of any official or officials representing Tehran. Trump said that the United States had not spoken with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.

Trump said that if an agreement was reached with Iran, the United States would move to take Iranian enriched uranium necessary for its disputed nuclear program.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Trump said the United States would return Iranian enriched uranium as part of a potential agreement with the Islamic Republic.

“It’s very easy,” Trump said as he left for the weekend in Florida. “If we had a deal with them, we would fall and take it ourselves.”

Trump said that any agreement with Iran would include ending the country’s nuclear capabilities.

He said, “We want to see neither a nuclear bomb nor a nuclear weapon. Not even close to it.”

“All I’m saying is that we are in the midst of a real possibility of making a deal,” Trump said as he concluded his extensive speech with reporters before boarding Air Force One.

“I think if I were a betting man I would bet on it,” he said. “But again, I don’t guarantee anything.”

An Iranian official denies the existence of negotiations with America

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf denied on Monday that Iran was negotiating with the United States to end the war, adding that “fake news is being used to manipulate the financial and oil markets.”

Trump announced on social media before the opening of American markets on Monday that the United States is currently conducting negotiations with Iran, and that Iran wants to reach an agreement to end the war as it enters its fourth week.
